Slavery, Freedom, and the Civil Rights Movement
This four-week series led by Kathleen Clark, PhD, explores the ideology of race that developed in the context of slavery, the struggles over what “freedom” would look like after slavery, and the resistance to achieving equality through the ongoing Civil Rights Movement.

Queens Learning Society will host A Conversation with Michelle Alexander moderated by Michael Barbaro. Alexander is the author of the New York Times bestseller, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, in which she peels back the curtain on system racism in the American prison system and reveals how mass incarceration has come to replace segregation.
