Jonathan Sheperd-Smith CPT '18 Launches 3rd Scholarship Campaign
​
Jonathan Sheperd-Smith, Second Year Corps Member, is thrilled to announce the launch of his 3rd annual scholarship campaign.
​
Over the past two years his organization, the DuBoisian World Scholars Society has awarded 12 scholarships to exceptional scholars at West Charlotte High School. Recipients have used their scholarships to support their post-graduation needs, spanning from tuition to the costs of transitioning to a new state.
This year the DWSS has set an ambitious goal of designating 12 scholarships. If you would like to make a gift online, share his our work with others, or learn more, you can do so here. Capitol Hill Fellows Program
The 2020 Capitol Hill Fellows Program application is live! The year-long fellowship will train and place TFA alumni in paid congressional staff positions on Capitol Hill. Apply by 1/15.

The Aspiring Leaders Program is a leadership development opportunity for TFA-Charlotte corps members working as teachers in CMS, TFA-alumni currently teaching in CMS, and other select CMS teachers. This 7-week summer fellowship from June 15 - July 30 provides teachers with executive mentoring, career shadowing, project management and leadership training opportunities. Leadership Conference on Civil & Human Rights K12 Policy Analyst role
The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States. The Leadership Conference Education Fund builds public will for federal, state, and local policies that promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States. The K12 Program Analyst will support the education equity program with a specific focus on K12 education, including support for state partner advocacy in the areas of K12 policy generally and the opportunities created by implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Please join CTI at their Open House for Teachers Thursday, Jan. 30, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at UNC Charlotte Center City in Uptown Charlotte. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
The International Civil Rights Center & Museum, in partnership with the Greensboro Urban Ministry, will host a Canned Food Drive. We are asking our guests and larger community to support the Museum's efforts in supplying canned food, which can be dropped off during normal business hours.

Film Screening: "King: A Filmed Record... Montgomery to Memphis"
This Academy Award-nominated documentary presents key events in the life of civil rights activist Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Beginning with the 1955 bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama, the production follows the Rev. Dr. King through major steps in his struggle to promote racial equality. With footage of the Rev. Dr. Kings' stirring speeches, the documentary is a fitting tribute to his legacy, and features clips narrated by numerous celebrities, including Harry Belafonte, Paul Newman, and James Earl Jones. There will be two showings this powerful documentary:

Stage Play: "Thank You Greensboro 4" by Gail Ross Hatcher
This theatrical presentation was written by Greensboro native Gail Ross Hatcher who, as a young girl, had a personal encounter with the Woolworth 1960 sit-ins and the four A&T College students. The play chronicles the true stories of growing up during the days of segregation in Greensboro. There will be four opportunities to catch this amazing play:

Children's Saturday Story Hour
The International Civil Rights Center & Museum is excited to be in partnership with the UNCG Department of Teacher and Higher Education for Story Hour 2020. The Museum will be hosting Christy Marhatta, a doctoral student at UNCG, on Jan. 11, with featured story Henry's Freedom Box. Story hours will take place on Sat., Jan. 11th and 25th, 2020, at 11 a.m.
